Work History - Television

Over the past ten years, I have had the great fortune to work for the writing staff of four shows: Duncanville, Rel, Will & Grace, and The Carmichael show.

While I was I writing episodes and pitching storylines for each of these shows, I also gained valuable experience in leadership - running creative rooms and overseeing staff - as well as experience coordinating with the varied production, executive, and marketing departments at Fox and NBC.

  • Duncanville - Fox

Duncanville is a show about an awkward boy who loves his friends, videogames and deeply struggles with dating - boy did I relate.

While on staff, the episode I wrote explored what happens when siblings who are in constant conflict are forced to work together, and be honest with one another for the first time.

Additionally, another episode was inspired by an event from my life - when my extremely talented little brother replaced me on my friends’ e-sports team. Yes I am still mad about this.

  • Rel - Fox

Rel was a show about found family and complicated relationships - what happens when you’re more responsible than your dad, when your kids love their uncle more than they love you, or when your most reliable friend is also your most recent ex.

It was a great pleasure to write complicated and comedic modern stories, and I got to work with Sinbad, which would have blown Child Me’s mind.

  • Will and Grace Revival - NBC

Coming to work on Will & Grace was an absolute delight - it’s so rare that a treasured piece of media from your youth returns AND you get to work on it.

This show was extremely foundational in my writing growth - to be able to work with so many masters of their craft, some of whom came out of retirement to return to a show they loved working on, was a career highlight.

  • The Carmichael Show - NBC

You know how you have some jobs where, if you were told you could go back and relive it, it would take you less than a second to say yes?

The Carmichael Show was that for me - it was the perfect genesis of great work, great people, and a great working environment. The lessons about creative writing and employee management inform every day of my working life.
